Edvard Munch

These artworks were inspired by the famous  Norwegian Artist Edvard Munch's The Scream artworks that were created between 1893 and 1910.

We used wax crayons and sharpie pens to create the faces and then used straws to blow dye into crazy patterns.  It was lots of fun!
We came up with lots of reasons why our characters were screaming!

Matariki Celebrations

We have been learning about the importance of Matariki over the past month.  Matariki is a small cluster of seven stars that appear in late May or early June and is also known as the Maori New Year.
It is a time when friends and family gather together and share kai, stories, waiata and making traditional Maori crafts.

In Kowhai we created these cool stars using a variety of different art techniques and patterns as we learned about what Matariki is and how it is celebrated.

As a school we celebrated Matariki with a hangi.
We invited our school community to join us.   A huge thank you to the Couch  family for their help and guidance to make this happen.  It was delicious.
